Out of the Crate

Our name is Out of the Crate… but we have dog crates at our facility. WHY?

Once upon a time, we felt SO guilty leaving our dog (Lincoln) in a crate all day long while we ran errands or worked long hours. We wanted him to be able to spend more time out of his crate, getting out all of his crazy puppy energy. And so… Out of the Crate was born! We’ve built Out of the Crate to give Conshohocken’s dogs the opportunity to play, socialize and romp around in a safe and controlled environment. NOT to spend their days in their crates, bored and lonely at home.

When we give tours of our facility, one of the stops along the tour is called our “Naptime Room” which is a room full of dog crates… BUT WHAT?!? Why does OUT OF THE CRATE have dog crates?!?! We’re glad you asked! We’ve designed our Naptime Room to give our daycare pups some much-needed breaks throughout the long day. Especially puppies, it’s very common for dogs to have trouble self-regulating their own breaks — especially in a fun & stimulating environment. That’s where we come in! Our playgroups run on a rotation throughout our indoor playground areas, outdoor play areas and our naptime room. It would be EXTREMELY unhealthy and unsafe for your pup to be highly-stimulated, running around playing ALL DAY LONG. We STRONGLY believe rest time is JUST as important as play time!

Is your dog NOT crate-trained? Don’t worry, that’s NOT a problem! Part of the daycare evaluation is seeing where your dog is MOST comfortable taking their breaks. If your dog experiences crate anxiety, we have open enclosures and suite-style rooms for them to be able to relax, collect themselves and take naps as needed. We also use our crates to be able to separate dogs for any feedings; this is the safest way to avoid any food aggression issues as well as having the wrong dog get into the wrong food.

Just because our name is “Out of the Crate” does NOT mean we don’t fully support crate-training your pup! According to the American Kennel Club, there are several awesome benefits to crate-training your dog, including:

  • Crates create a shelter for your dog to rest & relax. It’s their own personal space! In fact, dogs instinctively seek small spaces to create protective shelters for themselves. Crates are useful training tools for puppies, safe havens for senior dogs, and lifesavers for emergencies.

  • Crates can be a GREAT tool for helping with house training your puppy since dogs do not like to soil their sleeping quarters. This can help them learn how to hold their bladder.

  • Crate-training at home can also help prevent any unnecessary stress/anxiety in the future if your dog ever HAS TO be crated, whether at the groomers, the vet or even on an airplane! Set them up for success no matter where they go by crate-training at home first!

Our main goal at Out of the Crate is to provide your dog with a lot of supervised socialization, exercise and fun! Contrary to popular belief, we are not anti-crate by any means! We have crates for breaks, feedings and emergencies. Come tour our facility today!
